Humana, UnitedHealth, CVS Jump On Potential Medicare Advantage Payment Boost

Health insurance companies gained today with shares of Humana Inc. ( NYSE:HUM ), UnitedHealth Group ( NYSE:UNH ) and CVS Health ( NYSE:CVS ) are on the market movers list among top gainers. Government proposal that potentially raised payments for Medicare Advantage plans in 2026 was said to be the main reason for the increase.

Investing.com quoted the statement from CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) that payments to Medicare Advantage plans could increase to an average of 4.3% and additional 2.2% for expected adjustment in patient risk score.

The announcement is a major mover, quite the opposite to the situation in previous years when the insurers claimed that the rates are too low to cover the growing costs of healthcare.

This positive news today beats unfortunate news from the wildfires in California that negatively affected insurance stocks. Humana stocks spiked more than 6.5%, CVS rose 4.8% followed by UNH with 4.49% higher.
