Sony Honda Mobility Company Ltd, a battery electric vehicle (BEV) joint venture between Sony Group Corporation and Honda Motor Company headquartered in Tokyo, announced it has begun accepting orders in the US for its first model under its Afeela brand. The joint venture was established in 2022 to put into production software-defined vehicles (SDVs), after Sony unveiled its first prototype, the Sony Vision-S, in 2020.

Sony Honda Mobility made the announcement at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week, where it confirmed it plans to begin deliveries of the Afeela 1 four-door, all-wheel drive sedan in early 2026 with prices starting at US$89,900 for the Origin variant and US$102,900 for the Signature model.

The Afeela 1 is designed to compete with models such as the Tesla Model S in the luxury battery-powered sedan segment. The company said the Afeela 1 represents a new generation of mobility “pulsing with intelligence”, driven by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Ride Platform's system-on-chip (SoC) power semiconductors.

The Afeela 1 features the Afeela Intelligent Drive assistance suite, Level 2 autonomous driving and the interactive AI-driven Afeela Personal Assistant developed in partnership with Microsoft, which the company says offers “an unparalleled partner that keeps you company, learns your habits and evolves alongside you.” The car has 45 interior and exterior cameras and sensors to “ensure safety and security”.

The Afeela 1 is driven by two electric motors with an output of around 240 hp, powered by a 91.0-kWh battery pack. The Origin model has a driving range of around 300 miles. The interior features Sony’s pillar-to-pillar dashboard and drop-down screens for rear passengers. Production will take place at Honda Motor’s plant in Ohio, USA.
