Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) has partnered with Netherlands-based HERE Technologies to integrate advanced location data and technology into its new electric vehicle (EV) brand, Afeela.

This collaboration integrates HERE’s Navigation SDK into Afeela’s digital cockpit and HERE SDK Explore into its mobile app, both powered by HERE's unified mapping architecture.

HERE's unified mapping architecture supports various in-car systems and location-based applications in Afeela's software-defined vehicle prlatform, including advanced visualisation, augmented reality features, EV range management, among others.

The HERE Navigation SDK enhances the in-vehicle infotainment system with reliable navigation, EV-specific features, and safety information across digital displays.

Additionally, the HERE SDK (Explore edition) powers the Afeela mobile application with real-time map updates, seamlessly connecting the vehicle's functionality to the digital lives of drivers and passengers.

Sony Honda Mobility representative director, president and COO Izumi Kawanishi said: “Navigation is an important component of Afeela, and with HERE Navigation SDK, we are expanding beyond simple navigation to create an intuitive and personalised mobility experience.

“We look forward to bringing a new dimension to connected mobility through our partnership with HERE.”

Sony Honda said the HERE Professional Services will support Afeela's intelligent architecture, transforming mobility into an extension of the driver's digital life.

HERE Technologies CEO Mike Nefkens said: “HERE is building a live platform that enables Afeela to stay connected and shape its own uniquely connected digital cockpit experience.

“We believe that a connected guidance experience will be the foundation of all vehicles, moving us toward smarter and safer journeys in the future.”

At CES 2025 event being held in Las Vegas, US, SHM has unveiled Afeela 1, its first model under the Afeela brand.

The Afeela 1 EV features over 40 sensors, including cameras, LiDAR, and ultrasonic technology, to power an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS).
